Some of my books

I write books for all ages, for young children to teenage and adults. I have also written a book on writing - Writing for Children - for both aspiring and newly published authors.

While I spend quite a lot of time visiting libraries, schools and festivals talking about my books and running creative writing workshops, I do manage to find time to write, too!

New Zealand Schools and Sydney Writers

Working with the Book Council of New Zealand

I visited 9 different schools in North Island, New Zealand.

Over the next week or two I will be posting some photos and telling you about the schools I visited.  I had an amazing time, met some great people and worked with enthusiastic classes in both primary and high schools.

On the way home I stopped in Sydney where I was speaking to some of the writers who are members of SCBWI Australia, organised by the energetic and enthusiastic Suzanne Gervay, a fellow writer.

Congratulations to C J Skuse whose book Pretty Bad Things won the award.

Schools in the Dumfries area  of Scotland have been reading the four books in the shortlist of  the Dumfries and Burgh Book Award.

This is the first year of this award and I was delighted to find out that SPIDER was one of the books on the shortlist, especially since I was in such great company!

The other three books are

Pretty Bad Things

by C J Skuse

The Enemy

by Charlie Higson

Fever Crumb

by Philip Reeve

The voting takes place at the end of January and the winner will be announced at the end of February.
